Hello Everyone,

Mr. McPherson and Ms. Francis hope you are doing well and staying healthy. We understand that things are full of uncertainty now, and we are doing our best to keep you informed. A few important updates:

Video Message to Students from Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser:

3/17 update HAWAII TRIP CANCELED.

In the continuing effort to keep everyone safe, Mr. Mac is working with Coastline Travel company and have decided to cancel the Hawaii trip. As of today, Coastline Travel is working with the airline and hotel to return all moneys paid. We are hoping to give all travelers a full refund if possible. Please be patient while we work on collecting the monies from the travel agency (this may take some time) and we will start issuing refunds as soon as the foundation receives the funds. We will be contacting parents as soon as refunds can happen. We are so sorry to cancel this trip, but we will look at rescheduling a trip for next year.

Update 3/16

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to our Instrumental Music Page! We understand that things are full of uncertainty right now, however Mr. McPherson and Ms. Francis will try their best to keep things running as much as possible.

First and foremost (as of 3/16/2020), all assignments are optional and considered to be enrichment activities. They will not be included for any grading purposes.

Ms. Francis will post these enrichment activities in myconenct.  If you have issues logging in, email Ms. Francis at JFrancis@PowayUSD.com or Mcmf.asstdirector@gmail.com.

As of now, (March 16th, 2020), we hope that you continue to do the following:

Music:

Keep practicing! (Individually)  Each student on Friday should have received new music to continue to learn and work on.  If things permit, we will add additional music to Dropbox. We will keep you updated as to if/when this will be available.

Practice Logs:

In my connect, there are two practice log assignments. Also created a google document, which you can then add to your drive and submit if you do not have access to a printer.  You may also submit a photo. You may have your parent type his/her name in liu of signature (if submitting online). This is a great resource to help us stay on track and to remind us to keep working on our music.

Scale Proficiency Submissions:

If you would like feedback on your proficiency scales, you are welcome to email Ms. Francis or Mr. McPherson AND/OR submit a video of you playing. Again, these will not receive credit, but if you need help/or are struggling to learn scales, we will do our best to help you and give you feedback so that you can keep practicing.

Check the website, and our announcement page, regularly for more announcements and our updates.

Keep Calm, stay well, practice and wash your hands!

Canceled Events

As you may have heard by now, in an abundance of caution, the SCSBOA has canceled all upcoming music festivals for band and orchestra students. These include the Eastlake Festival on March 20 and the Poway Festival April 7 – April 9.

The SCPA canceled the remainder of the Winter Drumline competition season and the WGI has canceled the remainder of the Winter Guard Competition Season.

We appreciate the hard work and dedication on behalf of the students and their coaches and recognize these cancellations are very disappointing.

The SAT scheduled for this Saturday, March 14th is also canceled. Thank you to the many Mt. Carmel Music Programs parents who volunteered to support this test, please know that your time is appreciated. As of now we are still planning to host the tests in May (5/2/2020) and June (06/06/2020) and will require your support. Please keep these dates on your calendar and sign up to serve as a proctor or hall monitor.

As more details are available we will keep you informed.
